I have had a couple of these wine savers, and this one works very well for what it is. I have seen a couple reviews on here commenting that this is not effective and does not create an actual vacuum. While it could never create an actual vacuum, I think it is still effective. A wine will not be perfect the next day, but will still be very good. And where even a good wine will rarely last more than two days once opened, I have experienced very drinkable wine after four days. Of course it all depends on where you start. If it's a $5 bottle of wine then don't expect magic.

Bought this because I saw similar (but not identical) bottle re-stoppers at a Winery, where samples could be tested. Staff could uncork and recork the bottles very quickly for sampling.



So far these have worked well. Stoppers go easily into the bottles. Just have to pull the vacuum handle several times until you here a clicking. Not difficult to pull handle. Also when ready to reuse, just need to press the upper 'stem' on the stopper sideways, vacuum seal is broken and stopper comes out easily. So far working well. People at the winery said you could not use this method for 'sparkling' beverages (champagne) as the vacuum would remove the CO2 (sparkle) - so have not tried with champagne.

I have been using the Metrokane Wine Pourer for several years. For the price it is one of my most essential items in my home bar. Really I don't need it for the pouring but rather when we dont finish off the bottle of wine and want to stick it back in the fridge for another day or so. They do stretch out and thus you will need to replace them over time and I have had problems with some bottles not fitting them correctly but all in all you get a solid pour with no dripping and helps keep wine fresh when putting back in the fridge. Worth its weight in wine.

I bought this wine saver because I sometimes like to have a glass of wine with dinner at home (especially when I am cooking with it). Therefore, I end up wasting most of the wine because I can't drink it all myself, and it is never as good the second day. This wine saver system extends the drinkability of a decent wine to 2-3 days so if you organize your cooking you can use it all up. It works best the more full the bottle is - i.e. keeping half a bottle instead of just one glass. This is really good for someone who lives alone or a couple.



You just put the stopper in, hold the pump on top of it (it doesn't really lock) and pump out the air until you hear a little "click" sound. Leave the wine in the fridge which will also slow the fermentation. Then when you are cooking, take the wine out of the fridge to bring it to room temperature for dinner.



I already had some of the little decanter things (can't remember what they are called) and they are great to keep from dripping wine down the side of the bottle.

* Position the circular foil cutter over the top of the bottle.
* Press the sides of the cutter in lightly and twist a couple of times around the bottle.
* The foil top neatly removes to expose the cork.
To Use the Pinzon Penguin Wine Opener:

1. The sleek Penguin is designed to effortlessly remove a wine bottle cork.
2. Raise the lever and clamp the Penguin down over the neck of the bottle.
3. Grasp the rubberized inserts securely with one hand to hold the bottle steady.
4. Use the other hand to lower and then raise the lever in one smooth motion. (Although you cant see it, the corkscrew enters and pulls out the cork.)
5. With the lever up, lift the Penguin off the bottle. The cork will be inside the Penguin.
6. Lower and raise the lever again, and voilà! The cork slides off the corkscrew.
Note: The Penguin can be used to open wines bottled with regular corks, but careful use is advised when opening bottles with synthetic corks.

We have used this Pinzon cork puller for several times a week for a year and it remains the easiest portable puller we have encountered. I read a review by "Calamity Jane" that was completely contrary to our exerience with this cork puller. I can only say that I understand why she chose that name. While I do not expect the Pinzon cork puller to last a decade, mostly because of its relatively high plastic content, I have not found any weakness yet. Since ours came with an extra cork screw that appears to be teflon coated, I must assume that the manufacturer has found the screw to be a weakness in the product. As far as cork material, we have not found any difference in performance between natural and artificial corks. At roughly $25, this cork puller seemes to be a relative bargain given its ease of use throughout the entire cycle from inserting the screw to ejecting the cork. Based upon our experience, I recommend this product as one that works very well but will not be an heirloom.
