I bought this to upgrade from an old hand corkscrew, which was unpredictable to use and sometimes resulted in broken corks.



Other reviews are right that this comes in a plain cardboard box, so just keep that in mind for gift giving purposes. However, mine did come with a sheet of instructions, as well as a card with company information on it. I had never used a foil cutter before, but it was really easy and strangely satisfying to take off the top of the foil so quickly and neatly! Then I put the opener to the test and it worked like a charm! No twisting, nothing slipping off....super easy to use. Then to get the cork off the corkscrew I moved the handle back and forth and it popped right off!



I rated this a four because it is really easy to use, but it doesn't feel like super heavy duty quality. Also, it's rather bulky and I had to make room in one of my drawers to hold it. The two handles that wrap around the bottle neck kind of spring open, so I actually had to put things on top of it in order to keep them shut to allow the drawer to close. It also came with a tip cover for the corkscrew, which is nice so that I don't poke my hand rooting around in my drawer.



All in all I think this was a great purchase for the price. And the 4 for 3 deal is great too!

This corkscrew broke after the second use! I would not recommend it, and I would not purchase another one. If I find the time, energy and patience to find out if they'll exchange it with a new one and that one performs better, I will be sure to write an updated review.

We've had one of these knock off Rabbit type corkscrews for a couple of months now and absolutely love it. It's amazing how easily and swiftly you can remove a cork from a bottle with this thing. As others have noted (I think), though, I wish it came with some sort of instructions as to how to use it. Placing it on the bottle and removing the cork were very intuitive. No problem there. But it took a while to figure out how to get the cork easily off the corkscrew. You basically just have to go through the process of pulling the lever back up and then all the way back down again. But it's not obvious (to me, at least) that this would cause the cork to be removed from the corkscrew. But once you've figured that out, this corkscrew is the best. Oh yes, and the foil cutter is one of the best I've seen as well!

Purchased in February, this wine opener was dead by September. First, one of its components fell off, and was impossible to put back on. It still worked, and when it was working it was a great product. But then, in normal use, one of its "arms" broke off, and that was that. It's inexpensive and a good design, but I'd say the materials fall short. Also, the manufacturer is impossible to contact -- there's no website.

To Use the Pinzon Penguin Wine Opener:

We have used this Pinzon cork puller for several times a week for a year and it remains the easiest portable puller we have encountered. I read a review by "Calamity Jane" that was completely contrary to our exerience with this cork puller. I can only say that I understand why she chose that name. While I do not expect the Pinzon cork puller to last a decade, mostly because of its relatively high plastic content, I have not found any weakness yet. Since ours came with an extra cork screw that appears to be teflon coated, I must assume that the manufacturer has found the screw to be a weakness in the product. As far as cork material, we have not found any difference in performance between natural and artificial corks. At roughly $25, this cork puller seemes to be a relative bargain given its ease of use throughout the entire cycle from inserting the screw to ejecting the cork. Based upon our experience, I recommend this product as one that works very well but will not be an heirloom.
