Pinzon's easy-to-use wine opener effortlessly extracts a cork from any wine bottle in three seconds with simple lever action. Comfortable handles easily clamp onto a bottle's neck; the steel lever drives the tough, Teflon-coated worm into the cork with a push and then pulls the cork out cleanly with a simple pull. Releasing the cork involves the same action, only with the handles clamped onto the cork. The eye-catching opener is ruggedly constructed of red transparent plastic with a heavy-duty steel gear mechanism, and opens one-thousand bottles in its lifetime. It comes with a squeeze-and-twist foil cutter to strip away the foil covering a cork, and a replacement worm. Hand washing is recommended to preserve the beauty of the wine opener.

 "Junk" 2009-09-27
By Scott Brinckerhoff (Haddam, CT USA)
Purchased in February, this wine opener was dead by September. First, one of its components fell off, and was impossible to put back on. It still worked, and when it was working it was a great product. But then, in normal use, one of its "arms" broke off, and that was that. It's inexpensive and a good design, but I'd say the materials fall short. Also, the manufacturer is impossible to contact -- there's no website.

 "Pretty Good" 2009-08-21

It took a while to get shipped. The packaging was utilitarian. HOWEVER, having opened my first bottle with this opener last evening, it was perfect. The easiest opening I have ever had and I've opened thousands.

I liked this a lot, infortuantely, one day the nhandle just broke in two.

Perhaps they should put a metal rod, or similar reinforcement, inside the plastic handle.

Surprised others haven't had the same experience.

From the Manufacturer
Pinzon is proud to present the Penguin Wine Opener--a reliable and easy-to-use wine opener. Simply follow these easy instructions to use the foil cutter, wine opener, and stopper, and you'll be opening bottles in no time.

To use the Pinzon Penguin Foil Cutter:

* Position the circular foil cutter over the top of the bottle.
* Press the sides of the cutter in lightly and twist a couple of times around the bottle.
* The foil top neatly removes to expose the cork.
To Use the Pinzon Penguin Wine Opener:

1. The sleek Penguin is designed to effortlessly remove a wine bottle cork.
2. Raise the lever and clamp the Penguin down over the neck of the bottle.
3. Grasp the rubberized inserts securely with one hand to hold the bottle steady.
4. Use the other hand to lower and then raise the lever in one smooth motion. (Although you cant see it, the corkscrew enters and pulls out the cork.)
5. With the lever up, lift the Penguin off the bottle. The cork will be inside the Penguin.
6. Lower and raise the lever again, and voilĂ ! The cork slides off the corkscrew.
Note: The Penguin can be used to open wines bottled with regular corks, but careful use is advised when opening bottles with synthetic corks.

To Use the Pinzon Penguin Stopper:

* The stopper preserves for days on end the bouquet and flavor of a partially consumed bottle of wine.
* Plastic ridges on the stopper collar help provide an airtight seal.

To Replace a Cork Screw on the Pinzon Penguin Opener:

* Raise the lever and find the largest of three Philips screws in the body of the Penguin.
* Unscrew the largest Philips screw to release the cork screw.
* Pull out the Penguin screw and insert the replacement into underneath the lever. Then, re-insert and screw in the Philips screw where it was removed from.

Cleaning Instructions:

* Wipe clean with a damp towel and let air dry. Do not put into dishwasher.

 "Great Product" 2009-12-17

"Easy to Use Cork Puller" 2009-12-10
By Dave - Free as Can Be (Franklin, TN)
We have used this Pinzon cork puller for several times a week for a year and it remains the easiest portable puller we have encountered. I read a review by "Calamity Jane" that was completely contrary to our exerience with this cork puller. I can only say that I understand why she chose that name. While I do not expect the Pinzon cork puller to last a decade, mostly because of its relatively high plastic content, I have not found any weakness yet. Since ours came with an extra cork screw that appears to be teflon coated, I must assume that the manufacturer has found the screw to be a weakness in the product. As far as cork material, we have not found any difference in performance between natural and artificial corks. At roughly $25, this cork puller seemes to be a relative bargain given its ease of use throughout the entire cycle from inserting the screw to ejecting the cork. Based upon our experience, I recommend this product as one that works very well but will not be an heirloom.

"Amazing design, but doesn't last long" 2009-11-02
By Isaiah B. Damron
This is an amazing design -- It makes peoples' eyes pop outta their head. But one of the two I've bought for friends got stuck, and won't open after 2 months. Until they fix these problems, I'll probably go with a more traditional opener from now on.

 "Just follow directions" 2009-10-03
By Richard J. Latour (Barrington, NH, USA)
From what I read in other reviews, it seems that most problems were caused by not following the directions precisely. We have had it for a month and so far it works flawlessly. I really think it is great and the price can't be beat.

"Save the box!! Save the receipt!! It is JUNK" 2010-01-02
By J. Katz (Chicago, USA)
Worked well for 2 bottles. On third bottle, motor whined to a grinding halt, overwhelmed by a plastic cork in a new bottle. Good concept, good design, but horrible implementation with construction worthy only of a toy. Save your money, get something worthwhile. Either that, or keep the receipt and box until you've opened a dozen bottles.

"Allows me to be the wino I was born to be !" 2009-12-30
By HighwayStar (God's country)
I bought this over a year ago (was $20 at the time) thinking it would be a nice short lived toy for the holidays. Well let me tell you I'm more than impressed that's it's still working. It's mostly plastic and doesn't really inspire confidence. Frankly, when I received it I felt it wouldn't even last through the holidays. Color me wrong. It's served us well and just keeps going. I've read about synthetic corks wreaking havoc with certain openers and with the prevalence of synthetic corks (especially in our hunt for "value" wines) we've been unable to kill this thing. The first time I used it on a synthetic I thought "OK, here she goes..." but it worked fine once it grabbed. It does take a bit to grab a synthetic, a little downward pressure helps, but has worked like a champ since the day we got it. I can open a bottle of wine with anything, but this is the easiest, fastest, hey, you gotta check this out, way I've come across. I really don't know about the battery life as we always leave it plugged in, but have run it a few days unplugged. It's truly a fun and useful gadget. And now at $15, it's a no-brainer. If you're a regular wine drinker you've got to get one.

 "Fun and useful" 2009-12-28
By Cheryl K. Newlun (Reedsburg, WI)
I sometimes had trouble with cork screws and other cork "pullers" due to strength and the fact that I'm short. If the bottles are tall, I had to put them on the floor in order to have enough leverage to pull the cork. Now it's a breeze! I love this thing.

Compared to other more expensive models that I've seen and used, this is the best one for the money. Does everything exactly the same as the others do for almost 1/2 the price.
